MECİT CARPETS

Decadence of Oushak workshops and trouble some period in the Ottoman history gave opportunity this new style, Mecit Style. Sultan Abdulmecid, great lover of French Art, Abdulmecit imposed it for all the artistic forms.  In the mid of the 18th century, elements of a new style started to appear. New patterns with naturalistic flowers and pastel colors resembling Savonneri and Aubusson Rugs. Small centers continued having traditional colors and designs. However, Imperial factories of Hereke even used the designs of Persian, Savoneri and Abusson carpets.
